Note: If you use Google Tag Manager on your site, we recommend deploying the CookieScan banner using Google Tag Manager as described below.

Deploy the CookieScan banner using Google Tag Manager

Before you start

This template will display the banner on your site and also feed into Google Consent Mode to automatically block/allow cookies for tags that support Consent Mode.

For any tags that do not support Google Consent Mode, you will need to Setup Additional Consent Checks for each.

For any cookies that are set by services outside of Google Tag Manager, you will need to use our JS API to control which categories should allow the service.

Setup steps

1. Manage your domain in the CookieScan portal and note your CookieScan Id

2. Navigate to the Templates section in your Google tag manger workspace

3. Choose "Search Gallery" under Tag Templates, search for CookieScan and add the template to your Workspace

4. Once added, navigate to the "Tags" section on the sidebar. Click the New button to add a new tag.

5. Click "Choose a tag type to begin setup". Select CookieScan from the list that shows.

• Name the tag "CookieScan"
• Enter your CookieScan ID into the box that now shows
• Under triggering, choose the "Consent Initialization - All Pages" page view trigger
• Save the tag

The tag setup should look like the below

6. Setup any additional consent checks and/or JS API calls to ensure all cookies are handled.

7. Publish your workspace changes to make the banner live

8. We recommend turning off the switch to 'Allow CookieScan to auto-block cookies' and instead using a combination of Consent Mode supported tags, Additional Consent Checks and the JS API. See more about configuring manual blocking.

9. You may also want to make further integrations with Google Consent Mode. GCM is enabled by default but you can customise it. See the article on integrating with Google Consent Mode.
